Without the DOSX 16 bit applications won't run.

You need the autoexec.nt filed present in the path: \windows\system32
with at least the following in this file and in this order.:
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\mscdexnt.exe
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\dosx
