If you are having problems with running applications on Windows XP, try the
following:

1. Click on the START button (Bottom Left hand side of XP Window)
2. Click "Run" and type in "regedit" and click OK.
3. Select "My Computer" at the top of the List.
4. Click "Edit/Find" on the Menu.
5. Type in "PrefetchParameters", click OK.
   - Click next until you find the following key:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\
     Memory Management\PrefetchParameters

6. Within the key, locate "Enable prefetcher" and change the Value to "0" (zero)
7. Exit out of "regedit"
8. Reboot the computer.

NOTE: Disabling the Prefetch will slow the computers startup times.

Compatibility
#############
Theme:- Windows Classic

Next, modify the Start menu  - Right right click on the start bar (usually at
the bottom of your screen, anywhere there is not a program icon.
Select properties/Start Menu and select "Classic Start Menu."

Now, find the icon for the program you are having problems with. Get to the
window by right clicking on the icon, and selecting properties.
Select the Compatability Tab - Make sure you check the checkbox: "Run this
program in compatibility mode for:" and choose the desired operating system.
If you should have problems with LeadEater, specify the Windows 98 or
Windows 95 mode. If you have older programs, specify Windows 95 mode.

Select the Shortcut Tab. Here’s the real trick to getting a program to run
under Windows XP - Click on the Advanced button. Make sure you check the
checkbox: Run in separate memory space. That should do it.
There are really two issues: one is the problem of XP letting programs play
nice together - forcing them to mix memory space, and the other is the look of
the new interface--Microsoft has confirmed that some elements of the interface
and operating system database system are not working with other programs.

There you go! Just about any program should run under Windows XP with these
settings, though the software developer community is abuzz with Windows XP
problems.
